Paracartography / Returning Full Circles
New animations by

Welcome to paracartography.com the 'para' site of aamclaren.com, featuring my new cartographic animations "Returning Full Circles."

The circular maps are plotted from opposite points of the World (these are called Azimuthal Equidistant or AZED maps), so the centre of one becomes the outer edge of the other. I have used the polar coordinates filter in Adobe Photoshop (programmed by Thomas Knoll) to produce the donut-shaped maps between them, so the emerging World maps stretch their margins against the expanding central point of the opposite 'World view.' The animations can also be played backwards with the Quick Time control bars, so the maps shrink into their central points instead.
